John Shaw Sr. (1776 – 1832) was an English architect known for his revival of the Gothic Style. His notable public appointments included architect to Christ’s Hospital School and Ramsgate Harbour. His last work, the Church of St Dunstan-in-the-West on Fleet Street in London is widely considered his best. Shaw died in 1832 before the church’s completion and his son John Shaw Jr (1803 – 1870) oversaw the remainder of his commissions. Between 1799 and 1831, Shaw exhibited his architectural designs at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
